I am a videographer with nearly 20 years of experience, a decade of those as chief photographer at KWCH, Kansas’ top-rated television newsroom. I specialize in telling stories solely through the words and works of the people I interview by interviewing them so thoroughly their words carry the entire narrative
AS A LEADER & PROBLEM SOLVER
I lead teams with one simple philosophy: never ask someone to do something I wouldn’t do myself. Following that rule has allowed me to more acutely develop my skills as a master problem solver and communicator. Even under intense deadlines, scrutiny and stress, I excel at quickly making tough decisions and keeping up with daily team critiques, administrative tasks, and new technology.
AS A VIDEOGRAPHER & STORYTELLER
I give viewers a superior visual experience by connecting with story subjects and producing creative storytelling. It’s a facet of the job that inspires me daily. One memorable example of that was at the 2015 NCAA basketball tournament. It would have been easy to send fans’ reactions to the big plays and eventual win back to the station, but I pushed the reporter I was assigned to tell the story in a way no one in the newsroom had ever seen, by asking children at the game to draw and explain their favorite plays. A few months later, one of the judges who gave that newscast its regional Emmy said the story Hannah and I turned was the show’s highlight.
